Lightwater Village School

 

Lightwater Village School is situated in Catena Rise in the Village of Lightwater and shares a site with Hammond Junior School. The school has places for 180 children aged 4 to 7 years.

The school building comprises of 7 class bases, a music room and parents' meeting room. A hall is used for daily assembly, gymnastics and for school lunches, which are cooked on the premises for the children. There is an enclosed play area with challenging play equipment and a grassed area with an adventure playground and space for outside sports activities. There is also an Early Years play area for the youngest children and a quiet garden area.

The school aims are:-

  •    to develop positive attitudes towards learning, and achievement
  •    to experience a broad, balanced quality curriculum
  •    to develop imagination, sensitivity and creativity
  •    to develop physically, socially, spiritually and morally
  •    to become responsible and respectful of self and others
  •    to achieve high standards of excellence
  •    to be prepared for the next stage of education

We provide a challenging curriculum for the children in our care through following the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, and the National Curriculum Programmes for Science, Information/Communications Technology, Design Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education.

The children reach high standards of achievement as the SATs results for the school substantiate.

The school prides itself in the high level of pastoral care it provides for each child, and in the partnerships developed with parents and families.

The school had a very successful Ofsted inspections in March 1998, which identified many areas of excellence.

The school has just been successful in gaining accreditation from Investors in People which acknowledges the high quality of staff working in the school.

The school has a very active Parents Association who arrange a variety of fund-raising and social events for parents and children throughout the year. Many of these events are open to the wider community; do come along and join in.

Our monthly newsletter "LookOut", a joint publications from the school, parents and Governors, gives details of school activities and is displayed in venues in the Village and from the School Office.

The school has a very supportive Governing body comprised of parents, staff and people from the Village. The strength of the body lies in the collective knowledge, experience and expertise of its members. The Governors work very hard to ensure the school provides the best possible education for the children of Lightwater Village School.
