Tackling crime at Bagshot’s BP Garage

Anyone thinking of committing a crime at the Bagshot BP Garage better think again thanks to new, state of the art, CCTV cameras which have just been installed.

PC Adrian Passmore, the local Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Bagshot has been working closely with the BP management to implement a crime reduction programme at the premises on London Road, Bagshot and hopes to see a dramatic reduction in crime as a result.

For the past few years, the BP garage has been the subject of petrol and goods theft and since January 2007 there have been 14 thefts from the garage shop. (During 2006, 62 thefts were reported). Recognising this as a neighbourhood problem, PC Passmore had tried to engage with the previous owners of the garage but they appeared reluctant to work with the police to tackle the ongoing crime issue. However, with a recent change of management to a solely BP owned premises, PC Passmore has resumed his dialogue and has been working closely with them to sort out the problem.

PC Passmore said: “I’m delighted that Surrey Police and BP are working together to solve a neighbourhood problem and I’m confident that the state of the art CCTV system with its high definition images, will not only deter crime but will help us easily identify any offenders who persist in criminal behaviour. The CCTV system is just one part of an ongoing crime reduction programme with BP and I hope we will see a reduction in crime as a result of ongoing initiatives. ”
