It’s gnome joke

Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Lightwater and West End, PC Alison Worger is hoping that the shameful thieves who stole a garden gnome on a motorbike belonging to an elderly couple in Lightwater will have the decency to return it to its owners.

The theft occurred some time during the evening of Saturday 21 April from the couple’s front garden in Broomfield, Lightwater. It is believed that a group of youths stole the heavy ornament, valued at around £25 and used a shopping trolley to carry the gnome away.

The occupants of the house, who are both in their eighties, have a large collection of ornaments in their immaculate garden and had affectionately named the gnome, Barry Sheen.

PC Worger said: “We are tackling anti-social behaviour in the area but it really is despicable that a group of youths should steal property from someone else. I hope that whoever took the gnome will have the heart to return it to the couple. Alternatively, if anyone knows who was responsible they can talk to me in confidence.”
