| Attempted distraction burglary in Lightwater North West Surrey Police is appealing for any witnesses who may have been driving along Broadway Road, Lightwater at around 11.30am on Wednesday 9 May and saw a man and a woman coming out of a residential property. This follows an attempted distraction burglary at the house of an elderly couple in their 90s. A woman knocked on the door claiming to be from Age Concern and wanted to talk about meals on wheels. The woman was invited into the house and engaged the elderly occupants in conversation for around 15 minutes. As the woman was leaving the house, the female occupant came across a man standing in the doorway of the front bedroom. The couple then left on foot towards Guildford Road. At this stage it appears that nothing was taken. The woman is described as white and was referred to as Sarah. She was around 22-years-old, of slim build with brown/blonde straight hair worn down to just past her ears. She was wearing a flowered skirt to just below the knee and a woolly jacket with no sleeves. The man was also white, aged around 25-years-old of slim build and clean shaven. He was approximately 5ft 9” tall and of smart appearance. He was wearing black trousers, possibly brown shoes and a long sleeved white shirt with blue stripes. Anyone who has any information relating to this crime should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference D/07/10063. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously and free of charge on 0800 555 111. Surrey Heath Crime Reduction Advisor PC Robin Wood said: “Surrey Police is continuing to work with the elderly to make them more aware of the methods distraction burglars are using. I would urge people to follow some simple measures to make themselves less likely to become a victim of such crime.” PC Wood advises the following: · If you are in the
garden ensure that the door to your property is locked. · Remember you do not have to let anyone into your home uninvited. For more information call Helen Williamson, Press and Publicity Officer for North West Surrey based at Woking on 01483 655785 E-mail: 10357@surrey.pnn.police.uk
