November 21st

Good morning

It has been a busy few days and sadly we have had a spate of burglaries across the area.

Between 6:30 and 7pm on Monday a resident of Brentmoor Road, West End discovered a male in her house who claimed to be from the local Neighbourhood Watch. The male then escorted her round the house in what was clearly a distraction trick and it appears jewellery has been stolen. Whilst only one male was seen there must have been a second person in the premises. Shortly afterwards a burglary occurred in Heath Road, Bagshot where two males forced entry into the home of another elderly resident. The two males are described as being white, one aged 20s and the 2nd in 30s, both around 5' 8" tall, one wearing a dark leather jacket with baseball cap and the second wearing a navy blue overcoat. In this incident whilst the offenders were in the house the occupant tried to call Police but they pulled the phone line out of the socket. Also in the same evening another burglary occurred in the same manner in Mytchett. Sadly it would seem a group of individuals are targeting elderly residents and using a variety of tricks to either get into the house or distract the occupant whilst another person steals personal items.

We also had two burglaries in Windlesham where houses were broken into whilst the occupants were out. It is very possible that the people committing these are not the same as those doing the distraction type burglaries as the method in which they were committed was very different.

If you should see any suspicious persons please do not hesitate to call us. If you have elderly family members or friends please make sure they have some good security, especially a door chain. A colleague, Pc Robin Wood, is based at Camberley and is our Crime Reduction Officer and can be contacted on 0845 125 2222 x 5241 if you need any advice on home security.

Over the past couple of weeks we have had some thefts in Bisley. We have had five crimes in the area around Pilgrims Way, Greyfriars Drive and Church Lane. In four instances vehicles were broken into and personal items stolen. It would appear most are occurring at night with tools and golf clubs being stolen. In one instance a mountain bike was stolen and I have a feeling they are being committed by persons local to the area, so any information you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

In Lightwater we executed a warrant under the Vehicle Crime Act at a premises on Guildford Road last week which had over 30 cars on the land in front of the house. It relates to an investigation I have been running working with the Dept of Work & Pensions, Customs & Excise and the local council. As a result I arrested two males and one has been charged with altering insurance certificates with intent to deceive. We deal with the crime element of the investigation and the DWP and Customs conduct their own financial investigations to ensure suspects are paying the correct amount of duty, tax and not illegally claiming benefit.

Back in March we had an incident in West End where a number of young people were robbed of their personal possessions by a number of persons. It has been a very complex investigation led by Dc Paul Kendall from Woking CID and as a result 4 local young persons from the Lightwater, Bisley and West End areas have appeared at court charged with a number of offences relating to conspiracy to commit robbery.

Kind regards

Pc Ed Griffiths and all at Lightwater

November 20th

Bad day yesterday (Monday) when, in spite of the atrocious weather, Surrey Heath suffered a spate of 8 burglaries!

Four were in the Heatherside area around Wendover Drive/Byron Avenue, force was used to secure entry (through patio doors in 3 of the cases) with mainly jewellery and cash being the target.

Frimley Grove Gardens, Frimley. Offenders have taken a ladder from the shed to access first floor window. Disturbed by occupants who were downstairs at the time.

Cranmore Road, Mytchett, offender persuaded elderly occupant to allow him access. Stole cash.

Heath Road, Bagshot, forced rear window of elderly persons bungalow but on being challenged made off without stealing anything.

Brentmoor Road, West End. Male offender has climbed through kitchen window. Most alarmingly offender has then approached the occupant stating that they were from Neighbourhood Watch and that they had been burgled !! He then left without apparently stealing anything.

There was also an attempt burglary in Woodlands Road Camberley (early hours Friday) offenders forced open rear patio doors but were disturbed by occupants.

Just a reminder about vehicle security. Please make sure that you never leave belongings in an unattended area and always remember to lock it before you leave it. A number of vehicles were attacked over the weekend in the Highwaymans Ridge/Millpond road area of Windlesham. At least one vehicle had been left unlocked by its owner.

November 1st

No dwelling burglaries to report this week.

However, a word of warning, a Surrey Heath resident this week received a hand written letter purporting to be from an African girl from Uganda. Basically it was a begging letter requesting sponsorship to the tune of 1500 euros for school fees.

Do not be taken in by such correspondence because they are exactly as they appear - begging letters to con you out of your money.
