Crime Reports - March 2008

31st March

One burglary to report from over the weekend in Coleford Bridge Road, Mytchett (Friday pm) whereby offender used plant pot from the garden to smash ground floor window to gain entry. Items of jewellery were stolen.

28th March

One, rather despicable, burglary to report this week in Bridge End, Camberley (Weds PM) whereby a male has forced his way past the elderly occupant who answered the door. The occupant had the presence of mind not to panic and, when they tried calling police, the offender left without stealing anything.

Fortunately this type of incident does not happen very often.

25th March

One burglary to report from over the Bank Holiday weekend in Station Road, Frimley (Monday PM) whereby entry was gained via a ground floor window and jewellery was stolen.

17th March

Three burglaries to report. All 3 had their properties entered by putting an implement through the letterbox and unlatching a non deadlocked UPVC door handle and in all cases car keys were also stolen which had just been left on display. Fortunately only one car was stolen.

1. Bagshot Green, Bagshot (Friday night)
2. Manor Way, Bagshot (early Friday afternoon)
3. Lightwater meadow, Lightwater (Friday night)

Once again it is important to make sure that UPVC doors are always double locked and that car keys are hidden away out of sight.

14th March

No burglaries to report this week.

However I will reiterate details of cold calling alarm companies currently operating in the area.

I have recently received calls regarding 2 companies, Direct Response and St Johns Security. Both are from the Midlands area and currently cold calling in the GU and RH postcode areas.

Surrey Police do not advocate cold calling by alarm companies (although it is not illegal and cannot be stopped) and certainly do not "approve" specific systems or companies. If they say they are working in conjunction with Surrey Police they are lying!!

They may have informed our control room that they are in the area but they are certainly not working in conjunction with us.

State of the art wireless alarm systems do not come free and no alarm system is linked directly to the police - ever!

I suggest that you respond to these companies by politely declining their services and if you have already made an appointment, cancel it.

If you wish to purchase a burglar alarm I only recommend that you contact a local security company who is a member of the National Security Inspectorate (NSI/NACOSS). They are easily identified in yellow Pages with an owl logo. Only NSI registered companies are specifically recommended by Police and Insurance Companies.

10th March

One burglary to report from the weekend in MacDonald Road, Lightwater (Friday daytime) whereby entry has been gained by unknown means and offender has stolen 3 lap tops and a games console.

Friday evening there was also an attempt burglary in Coleford Bridge Road, Mytchett whereby offender tried to force a rear UPVC door but was disturbed by the occupants who were home at the time.

7th March

May I thank those of you who have responded positively to my first update since Eds departure. It is nice to know that the information is being received and of course being read. If there are any particular issues or questions that you may have I will be happy to answer as best I can.

Unfortunately on the 29th February and 4th March Threshers at West End was again targeted by Burglars. The premises has suffered owing to some problems with security which we are trying to resolve with Threshers management. Sadly for the actual on site manager the incidents are obviously causing distress. The matters are being investigated as part of a series.

In West End there are still problems with antisocial behaviour around the Bowling club however reported actual crime has reduced. Work is being carried out to improve the security of the site and our patrols are continuing. This week a number of youths were stopped by officers after reports of vehicles speeding around the car park. The youths are not local. Mike and Anna have been visiting a number of parents concerning reported antisocial behaviour highlighting concerns and raising awareness of the complaints being received.

Bisley has been quiet though there have been a couple of incidents of damage around the Cobbetts Walk area. Maria is liaising with the neighbourhood team in Woking as once again it is believed that those responsible are coming from Knaphill and Woking and may link to the closure of a youth club in that direction.

In Chobham officers seized a motor vehicle on the common after locating three youths suspected of having stolen the motor. The vehicle in fact belonged to another family member who was not too pleased that her vehicle had been taken and supported police action which has resulted in one person being charged and two others receiving cautions.

In Bagshot there have been further offences of vehicles making off from the BP without payment. The BP garages throughout the villages suffer from such crimes but these are prevalent all over. A number of investigations are currently underway which will have positive results with regular offenders having been identified. We are awaiting the updates but in the meantime have regular contact with all the garages.

Jason Pill and Anna have been conducting speed enforcement about the villages, in particular around School Land and Brentmoor Heath following complaints by residents. They will be out again soon so beware!!!

I am now on leave for a couple of weeks so I will wish you all a Happy Easter.

Alison and all at Lightwater

7th March

Three burglaries to report since my last bulletin.

1. Richmond Close, Frimley (Thursday daytime) offender smashed a window to gain entry before stealing a TV and MP3 player.

2. Frimley Road, Camberley (Sunday PM) offender entered via insecure kitchen window, stealing cash and mobile phone.
3. Grasmere Road, Lightwater (Tuesday evening) offenders have forced entry via front door but upon entering were confronted by elderly occupants. Have made excuses whilst distracting the occupants but left, stealing nothing.

Two other occurrences to be aware of.

Last week, in the Chobham/West End area, a male was calling on premises supposedly doing a survey in the area on behalf of the free local paper. Enquiries with the Woking Review state he is nothing to do with them but they had had other reports of him in other parts of Woking. We need to speak to him to find out what he is up to so if he happens to turn up at your home, refuse all details and phone police immediately on 0845 125 2222.

Secondly it would appear that an alarm company calling themselves "Direct Response" are telephone cold calling in this area asking whether you have a burglar alarm etc. They are not a reputable company so please refuse details and decline their services.

If you do have other problems with telephone cold calling you can get your details barred by registering with the telephone preference service (TPS).
