Crime Reports - July 2007

30th July

Good afternoon to you all.
I spent the last 4 weeks on vacation in the USA working with young people in the state of New Hampshire on a summer camp. It is a very rewarding and worthwhile experience and something I have been doing every year since 1997. It was quite a shock to leave the hot sunny conditions there to come back to a wet and flooded Surrey.

The flooding issue is something more for the local councils and Environment Agency to resolve but from a Police perspective we have a duty of care to save life / prevent injury / protect property and this sometimes results in roads being closed. Please can I ask if floods return that any journeys you make are of vital importance as a simple trip to the shops can often become a 4 hour nightmare journey. However as has happened every time we get floods local residents whose homes are flooding become very frustrated by drivers whizzing through the floods in their 4x4s causing waves to run across the road and into their homes causing extensive damage. When there is surface water on the roads please be considerate to all persons and consider whether your journey really is necessary.

Crime wise we have had some burglaries in the villages but in recent times none have occurred in Lightwater, West End, Chobham or Bisley. We have had some good results with males responsible for house burglaries being arrested following some excellent work by uniformed and CID officers. However please remain alert as burglars will try to take advantage of the times when we are often away on holiday leaving our homes unoccupied for a week or two.

This weekend we had a great time at Fairoaks Airport with a large group of Russian children from Chernobyl who visit the UK every year to spend some time with host families. The few weeks they spend here are extremely important, not just to develop social skills but the time here in our fresh and unpolluted environment adds years to their lives considering the radioactive and polluted area they live in.

We have been looking at the issue of oversized HGVs using Chobham High Street and have been contacting the companies concerned. Chris Chaney in the Parish Council offices has a stock of forms showing which sized vehicles are permitted to use the route. Please feel free to collect some of these forms and notify either Chris or us of any offending vehicles. The High Street does get congested very quickly and by enforcing the weight limit regulations we can try to make it less so.

I have attached some pictures of a male who is coming into the area on a regular basis and filling up his vehicle and containers in the rear of his vehicle with fuel and driving off without payment. If you have any ideas who he may be please let me know. He uses a silver Volkswagen and a white Peugeot and these two registration plates which are false - RJ51 NBD and S481 KJH. If you should see this male or vehicles on with these number plates please call us on 999 as we are keen to catch him. If he is stealing fuel on such a regular basis he will no doubt be selling it off somewhere and will be needing the money to fund his criminal lifestyle.

Regards
Pc Ed Griffiths

20th July

One burglary to report this week in Deanside, Camberley (Monday afternoon). Offender entered via insecure kitchen door stealing a purse and its contents.

Also received this week was a warning regarding distraction burglars. This time the offenders included a woman purporting to be from Age Concern. Please be aware of the different and sometimes despicable excuses that distraction burglars are using. Always use a door chain and thoroughly check identification. IF IN DOUBT KEEP THEM OUT.

However if you have concerns about something currently taking place, always call 999.

2. Guildford Yellow Pages - delivery of these books is due to take place week commencing 23rd July 2007 for the following postcode areas GU15, GU16, GU18, GU19 and GU20 which encompasses the majority of Surrey Heath. I am advised that delivery usually takes 2-3 weeks and delivery agents have been instructed not to leave directories on view from the street. In some cases this may be unavoidable so they hope to enlist the support of neighbours wherever possible. Yellow Pages customer services can be contacted on 01189 777245.

2nd July

Six burglaries to report from over the weekend.

1. Pound Lane, Windlesham, Saturday morning, offender entered insecure conservatory and then forced rear door to house. On entry activated burglar alarm scaring him off without stealing anything.

2. Green Farm Lane, Bagshot (overnight Saturday/Sunday) entered via insecure conservatory window but stealing nothing.

3. Highams Lane, Chobham (early Sunday morning) but implement through letterbox to hook 2 sets of car keys left on the tale adjacent to the front door. Two vehicles were subsequently stolen from the drive.

4. High Beeches, Frimley (Sunday morning)

5. Bayfield Avenue, Frimley (Sunday morning)

6. Blythwood Drive, Frimley (Sunday morning) in all 3 of the above, offender believed to have put implement through the letterbox to pull down the internal handle of UPVC front doors not properly deadlocked. Items including handbags car keys and mobile phones stolen.

Please lets not get complacent. This type of UPVC door with fixed external handle, needs to be deadlocked to make them totally secure. And please don't leave car keys lying around or hanging on hooks for all and sundry to see. Hide them away in a non obvious place.
