Crime Reports - April 2008

28th April

Two burglaries to report.

1. Chertsey Road, Chobham (over a period of days) offenders forced rear window of unoccupied house undergoing renovation and stolen small electrical items.

2. Chantry Road, Bagshot (Sunday PM) offenders forced lock on rear door to gain entry but it appears nothing was stolen.

There has been an increase lately in the early morning thefts of milk from doorsteps, some over this weekend on the Heatherside. If you are out and about very early in the morning please be vigilant.

25th April

One burglary to report this week in Epsom Close, Camberley (overnight Tuesday/Wednesday) offender reached in through the letter box to pull down the internal unlocked door handle to gain entry. Stole car keys from the kitchen table and subsequently stole Mitsubishi car from the drive.

21st April

One burglary over the weekend, a distraction burglary in London Road, Bagshot on Friday evening where offenders talked their way into premises without ID being properly checked. An amount of cash was taken.

On a different note, BMG Research are carrying out a phone poll conducting a Neighbourhood Policing Survey. Apparently members of the public are phoned at random and asked to participate in the survey. This is a genuine survey and researchers should give all participants the non emergency Surrey Police number and tell them that they are conducting the Neighbourhood Policing Survey reference 5815.

This is clearly against our "No cold calling" policy yet has been initiated between Surrey Police and Surrey County Council. This issue has been raised with senior officers.

18th April

No burglaries to report this week.

However please take note the following information and advice. One in 5 internet users are still being tricked into revealing their bank security details to online fraudsters.

The fraudsters send out E mails claiming to be from your bank in what is known as phishing scams.

When you click on the link to the fake bank website, which looks identical to the genuine site, you will be asked to verify or update your personal security information. The people running the site then use the details to strip your bank account of money. Just clicking on the link to the website or opening an attachment can trigger spy ware which captures your key strokes so that fraudsters can find out your security details later.

Always delete the E mails immediately and put anti spy ware software on your computer, one in 3 users don't have any.

Your bank/building society will never ask for your log in details, PIN's or passwords in full by E mail.

Never click on an E mail link. Instead, type in the bank's address yourself and report any phishing E mails to APACS at www.banksafeonline.org.uk where you will find advice on preventing on-line fraud.

15th April

Two burglaries to report from the weekend.

1. Oakdene, Chobham (Thursday AM) offender entered via front door without the use of force, stealing wallet and mobile phone from jacket hanging in the hallway.

2. Guildford Road, Deepcut (Saturday AM) offenders entered using a duplicate key stealing car keys found in the premises. Subsequently stole vehicle from the front of the premises. This vehicle later crashed and 3 offenders were caught and arrested and are currently being investigated.

10th April

One burglary of note this week in Mincing Lane, Chobham (Monday AM) whereby offenders have forced the rear door to gain entry to separate part of the house, stealing TV and DVD player. Have then gone to the rear of the main house, smashing out a small pane of an old style leaded window, leaning through and opening the unlocked main window. Fortunately nothing was stolen from here.

7th April

Two attempt burglaries over the weekend on Friday night in Albert Road, Bagshot where the offender has used a garden spade to try to force the rear door but being unsuccessful, and last night in Old Portsmouth Road, Camberley where an unknown implement has been used to try to force a rear ground floor window before being disturbed by the occupants.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to review security of their sheds as a number have been broken into and tools either stolen or used in an effort to break in to the main house

4th April

One incident to be aware of in Worsley Road, Frimley, whereby persons attended the home of elderly residents asking if they would like some manure. They then charged them £250 to what amounted to no more than a few sacks full. Although the money was handed over willingly, it is obviously far too excessive for what was provided.

Also, in Coleford Bridge Road, Mytchett overnight last Monday, 4 cars were broken into. Some had actually been left insecure and property that had been left in the unattended vehicles and stolen included a wallet, cash and clothing.
