Prizes presented for blooming borough

The winners of this year's Surrey Heath Borough in Bloom competition were presented with their prizes on Thursday.

The competition, which has been organised by the Borough Council for the past 14 years, encouraged dozens of green-fingered residents to get planting, potting and pruning this summer to make Surrey Heath a more pleasant place to live.

The Mayor Cllr Keith Bush presented the winners of the eight categories with their prizes at Notcutts Garden Centre in Bagshot. He was joined by the competition's sponsors, the Borough Council's Leisure Team and Parks and Countryside Team, Muddy The Leisure Mascot and Portfolio Holder for Economy and the Environment Cllr Pat Pearce.

Cllr Pearce, who was also one of the judges, said: "Thank you to all the entrants for their enthusiasm, creativity and hard work which made the competition such a success. The standard of entries was very high. It has been wonderful to see people of all ages taking part in Borough in Bloom and we especially welcome the response we have had from schools, as the competition helps to educate children about the importance of caring for the environment."

She added: "We would also like to thank our sponsors The Mall, Brooks and Partners, Toshiba, SC Johnson, The Arena and Notcutts for hosting the prize giving and providing refreshments for everyone."
