New Life for Beech Tree

A large mature beech tree which has grown in the grounds of Watchetts Recreation Ground for the past fifty years has been given a new lease of life.
The tree had to be removed last year as it was infected with fungus and was rapidly dying. The main trunk has been retained and with the help of wood sculptor Tom Harvey, it has been transformed into a beautiful piece of art.

The trunk has been carved into images of wildlife that can be found in the park and had wood preserver put on it to help it last another ten years.

Cllr Pat Pearce, Economy and Environment Portfolio Holder said, “The sculpture is beautiful, I am so pleased we were able to save the tree by making it into something interesting for the public. We have already received feedback from local dog walkers commenting on how beautiful it is.”
