Launch of the Surrey Youth Games 2007 Surrey Heath youngsters are preparing to get on their marks and get set for the 2007 Surrey Youth Games. On Saturday 28th April Surrey Heath will officially launch its campaign at Kings International College in Camberley with its athletics trials. The Deputy Mayor Cllr Terry King will attend and meet youngsters. Training and trials will be held on the day and will continue over the next few weeks until the Games on Saturday 23rd June and Sunday 24th June in Guildford, where youngsters from the Borough will compete against children from the county's 10 other districts. This will be the 11th Surrey Youth Games and will see around 2,600 youngsters take part in a variety of events. The following events will be included in the Games: - Athletics (mixed), Year 5
& 6 Year (7) = Year 7 eligible if teams are struggling for numbers Leisure Development Officer at Surrey Heath Borough Council, Kelly Carvey, who is co-ordinating the Surrey Heath squad, said: "Surrey Heath is planning to enter all events and hopes to follow on the success of last year's squad, who bagged third place. The Games gives many young people their first taste of competitive sport and the chance for them to compete in front of hundreds of spectators." She continued: "The sports included in the Games must have demonstrated a pathway to local clubs so that young people can continue in their chosen sport, if they wish, after the Games." To be eligible to represent Surrey Heath participants must either live or go to school in the Borough. The Surrey Heath squad will be sponsored by Toshiba, Servon, Prontaprint, and the Arena Leisure Centre.
