RELEASE

Frimley & Camberley Age Concern Tea Room To Have New Premises

Surrey Heath Borough Council, The Mall Main Square and The Frimley & Camberley Age Concern have been in discussions to relocate the Tea Room within Camberley Town Centre.
The Tea Room is used by Frimley & Camberley Age Concern which has been a feature of Camberley Town Centre for many years; and is currently located in the area outside of Army and Navy. The current lease with The Mall Corporation expired on 19th May 2005 and is currently being renewed month to month, in order to find a suitable alternative location to enable the redevelopment of Cambridge Square in the near future.

The three parties have now agreed the new location for the new Tea Room, located on the ground floor of the Main Square Car Park adjacent to the main entrance at the corner of Princess Way/Princess Road. This proposed location has been chosen as it is located next to the disabled parking spaces and the Dial-A-Ride facility is able to drop off and collect from directly outside. The proposed area at present is being used as bicycle storage and sufficient bicycle storage can be provided elsewhere in the car park, the area is also covered by The Mall’s CCTV giving added security. The Mall is also proposing to build this facility.

Surrey Heath Borough Council has agreed to grant a lease to Frimley & Camberley Age Concern of the area in Main Square Multi Storey Car Park for a term of 15 years.

Marjorie Saywood, a member of Frimley & Camberley Age Concern’s Executive Management Committee said “We are very pleased with the outcome of the discussions. They have been conducted in a very positive and cordial way and Age Concern welcomes the opportunity of improving the tearoom facilities for the over 55’s in Camberley, and at the same time retaining an appropriate and welcoming environment. The new location also has many advantages, not least of which is that it will be a little nearer to the new Atrium development and will be used by customers from there as well as from Main Square.”

Glen Fulton, General Manager at The Mall Main Square, said “The Mall Main Square is delighted to announce that approval has been granted by Surrey Heath Borough Council and trustees from the charity Frimley & Camberley Age Concern to move and fully refurbish the popular tea hut to a bigger location at the centre. The Tea Room, which is run by Camberley & Frimley Age Concern, will be designed with input from the charity with more seating and new facilities for their loyal customers. Plans are currently being drawn up and the Tea Room will move once the new site is fully completed. We look forward to welcoming new and existing customers who will be able to take a break from shopping and relax with a cup of tea.”

Cllr. Moira Gibson, Surrey Heath’s Leader of the Council said, “Surrey Heath Borough Council is pleased to be able to work in partnership with an organisation such as Frimley & Camberley Age Concern, to help provide a facility like this in Camberley Town Centre.”
