Council Workers Dance for Charity

The staff at Surrey Heath Borough Council have contributed to this year’s Children in Need by dancing and auctioning off parking spaces.

The Chief Executive, Senior Officers and other staff members joined in some Scottish country dancing in their lunch hour on Tuesday 15th November under the instruction of Policy and Partnerships Manager, Marjorie Hume, who has been Scottish dancing in her spare time for 15 years.

Staff paid £1 to watch them all dance in the staff restaurant - learning three dances: The Dashing White Sergeant, Corn Rigs and The Gay Gordons all of which involved partner work and a very aerobic workout! Staff felt it was definitely a pound well spent! Additionally a raffle took place. The dancing staff raised £187.12 for Children in Need.

On Thursday afternoon staff were invited to bid for the parking spaces reserved at the back of the Council offices for the Strategic Management Team (Chief Executive, Director of Customer Services, Executive Head of Strategy and Policy, Executive Head of Corporate Services). After an afternoon of bidding, a total of £130 was raised and those staff members that normally park at Knoll Road car park were given the opportunity to park at the back entrance of the Council offices today (Friday 18th November).

Barry Catchpole, Chief Executive said, “The dancing was enjoyed by all, though it did highlight our level of fitness was not up to scratch! The Council is happy to support such a worthy cause and the staff member idea of auctioning off the parking spaces seemed to make everyone’s afternoon more enjoyable. I am looking forward to next year’s activities once I have my breath back – whatever they may be!”

In total, Surrey Heath Borough Council raised £317.12 for Children in Need.
