Surrey Heath Borough Council Secure Site of Field 0081, Pennypot Lane

Surrey Heath Borough Council this weekend secured the traveller site, Field 0081, Pennypot Lane, Chobham.
The remaining travellers have now moved off and the site is now secured with barrier access. Measures have now been put into place to ensure further tipping is prevented.

Surrey Heath Borough Council is now working with partner organisations, including the Environment Agency and Surrey County Council to prepare plans for the restoration of the site.

Brian Townley, Head of Built Environment, said “It has been a long and costly legal process to secure this site but the Council is pleased that local residents can now look forward to the day when this Green Belt site will be restored".

Field 0081 was occupied in February 2003 by 15 caravans and other various vehicles. At the same time, hardcore building material was brought onto the site. Subsequently a planning application was submitted for ‘Use of land as a private gypsy caravan site’.

For further information about Pennypot Lane please visit the Surrey Heath website www.surreyheath.gov.uk – Look under ‘Planning’ and then ‘Travellers and Gypsies Update’. Alternatively please contact the Council on 01276 707100 or email enquiries@surreyheath.gov.uk
